Spring Practicum Student: Nay-Yar!

Welcome aboard Nay-Yar, our newest addition to the team. Nay-Yar is a current student at Mount Royal University working towards her diploma in Social Work. In addition to work and school, Nay-Yar spends a great deal of time volunteering, working with youth in many various local organizations in town. In her free time, Nay-Yar’s passion is writing creative fiction and songs, meditating and meeting new people.

Q & A

1. You’re a new addition to the Amazon Rainforest. What animal would you be and why?
I would be a magical phoenix-gened butterfly that has blue flames for wings. Why a magical fire-winged butterfly? Because I come across as peaceful and gentle (and I am), but I am also a strong and driven person. I also like to find magic within my own life by putting an imaginative twist on day-to-day events. An example of this might be me seeing my breakfast as a gourmet feast sent to me by the Queen of England. I love food.

2. What do you want to be down the road?
I want to be someone who escapes the rat race and has financial freedom. My dream is to be a fiction writer but more importantly to continue being someone who is grateful, honest, kind and compassionate.

3. What do you think about when you’re in the bus or c-train?
I crack open a book and think about the wonderful stuff I am reading. I want to make the best use of my time while using Calgary transit.

4. What's your favourite colour?
I like multiple colours based on what the colour is on. Different colours look great on different things. I am drawn to gold, rose pink, light violet, sky blue and psychedelic colour-schemes.

5. What do you look forward to most while working with Antyx Community Arts?
I look forward most to meeting youth, connecting and learning from them. I am excited to build new skills and help contribute to the community through Antyx. I am looking forward to working in an environment that inspires me as a person and as an artist.

Nay-Yar Islam is the Antyx Community Arts Practicum Student for Spring/Summer 2017 semester. We look forward to seeing the work and contributions you shall bring to the team!
