Forgotten Sacrifice

Written by Zainab Majid

I see a wall

A place to mark my territory

The cost is heavy

But I take the risk anyway

Something tells me to stop

Yet I still grab my spray paint can

And glance over my shoulder often

Out of fear of being discovered

Anonymity is my identity

I grab blues and reds and blacks

In hopes of expressing my resentment against this law

That bans me from leaving my mark

The sacrifice I make today

Will hopefully change the minds of tomorrow

Even if it becomes a forgotten sacrifice

The message will live on
