Faces of Antyx: Moni

We’re so excited to have Moni as our Feature Friday this week! Moni has been with Antyx since last summer and has had the chance to participate in a few of our groups such as our Alex Community Food Centre mural camp, our drama camp and Battle City.

Battle City was Moni’s first break-dancing performance and after practicing every Thursday for a month, Moni emerged victoriously. We’re so proud of her accomplishment and dedication! It’s no surprise that this is her favourite memory of her time at Antyx.

In addition to break-dancing, Moni possesses many other talents including playing guitar and participating in both basketball and volleyball.

For some, joining a new group such as Antyx can seem intimidating but Moni assures others that our community is understanding and will never judge your or your situation.

“It makes me think of a nice second family. I love being at Antyx! It’s my favourite thing to do when I’m not busy. It’s my favourite place to be and everyone is so welcoming and so nice. I feel like I belong”.

Our youths come together and are able to create a strong bond, something that Moni is appreciative of. When we asked her what she’s learned since joining Antyx, she said “There's a lot of other stories and more issues that I didn't realize are actually more common. I thought it was just a me thing and then I found out that other people experience the same things I have.”

At Antyx, we want to promote an environment of inclusion and a collective sense of community. Our hearts were warmed when Moni responded to our question of how she would describe Antyx in one word with,

“Home”.
