Faces of Antyx: Nic

Introducing one of two of our newest winter practicum students!

Hi! I’m Nic and I use she/her or they/them pronouns. A bit about me: I am a social work student at Mount Royal University, and I am excited to be completing my second practicum with Antyx! I am so excited to be able to combine my love of art with my passion for social justice. When I am not studying I can be found behind a camera. Over the past few years I have worked with drag and burlesque communities in Calgary to capture their performances. More recently, I have worked on advertisement photography projects. Fun fact: I have a collection of old cameras that I like to play around with, I enjoy the moody look black and white 35mm film gives to the images. In my spare time I enjoy movies, music, and dad jokes. I tell dad jokes but I have no kids…I'm a faux pa!

Q: If you could do something dangerous just once with no risk what would you do?
A: Be a stunt driver in a movie

Q: Where would you choose to live if you had to leave this country?
A: New Zealand. I’d go live that Hobbit lifestyle, especially the part about having a second breakfast.

Q: What’s your favourite family tradition?
A: My mum always gets or makes my siblings and I an ornament for christmas that reflects what we were interested in that year. Our tree has Pokemon, Spongebob, Doctor Who characters, race cars, coffee cups, and Disney characters amongst other wonderfully wacky ornaments.

Q: If the whole world were listening, what would you say?
A: Rest isn’t a reward

Q: How do you make yourself believe more in yourself?
A: This is something I’ve been working on lately, and I recently saw a post on Instagram that I found helpful, and it said “You believed in Santa for 8 years, you can believe in yourself for 5 seconds”.
