Faces of Antyx:

Dylan

We’re so excited to be featuring Dylan for this week’s Faces of Antyx Feature! Dylan has been a part of Antyx since the Winter of 2017 and has recently been hosting a series of competitive breaking classes and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!

Q: What has been one of your favourite projects/events that you’ve been apart

of?

  1. Genesis Multi-Cultural Festival (2018) (First PAID performance gig)

  2. Culture Shock Volume 2, 3, 4, Fuse Edition (as well :)))

Q: How did you find your passions and how have you incorporated them into what you do?

A: I found my passion for physical activity through trying out multiple sports during my early teenage years. Only to experience a car accident in 2015 putting me out of physical activity for most of my 8th grade year. Breaking (bboying) came into my life as of around May 12th, 2016. But did make some appearance when I was in 6th grade watching the 2014 Battle City SE Qualifiers at the Village Square Leisure Center. Quitting sports for good. I picked up breaking (breakdancing) because of its endless physical requirements. Giving me the ultimate feeling to train to no ends. As of this decade, I have decided to incorporate my love for physical activity to pursue the newly sawt Paris 2024 Olympic Games for b-boying. No other dance gives me as much physical adrenaline as b-boying, therefore b-boying is forever my present passion.

Q: What has been the biggest opposing force that you encountered on your creative journey?

A: The biggest most dangerous force that I have encountered on my creative journey is myself. A good example of this opposing force taking action, is hitting me with extreme doubt and depression during the start of the Covid-19 lockdown. Like many others, I found myself lost in mind, body, and soul. All because I had many aspirations to pursue during my last semester during high school and right after. With events being cancelled, I felt demotivated so I quit breaking for 6 months. Only to reboot seriously on August 31st, 2020 taking on my current mission to fulfill my 730 days of training (2 years straight). This opposing force has always been around but has never really attacked me the way it did during these Covid times. I am very confident I can overcome such confusing emotions again.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A: The best piece of advice and the most general, that I have ever been given is to fall in love when I am ready. The thought of “falling in love” with someone else appears occasionally, but with the limited time to train with my youthful fast healing body. Falling in love can wait many more years.

Q: What are you currently working on?

A: Currently working on learning more about what routes and options I could take in life, that could aid my passion and take it to the next level. My eyes are on learning more about business as of recent.

Q: What is your biggest motivation?

A: My biggest motivation is to survive.

Q: What is your dream project or goal?

A: To leave a legacy for my kin and pass away happy.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone who’s wanting to join Antyx but is hesitant in doing so?

A: My advice would be that “Hesitancy only takes you so far, eventually you are going to have to take that couple steps forward to progress your own life story.”

Free food, knowledge, and multiple diverse clubs/places to meet people from all different sorts of backgrounds. I truly feel that you can never get such a resourceful package to help any individual grow stronger anywhere else. Yes, it is uncomfortable at many times, but I would definitely pick the uncomfortable over the comfortable any day of the week. Especially when there is little to no risk in doing so. The only cost to pay for such services is your time and participation!
