Faces of Antyx

Our favourite day of the week means another Feature Friday! Joining “Faces of Antyx”, it’s Samad!

Q: What has been one of your favourite projects/events that you’ve been apart of?

A: One of my favourite events I’ve participated in as a member of Antyx would be a performance we did for multiculturalism day 2018 at the genesis center. Going through the choreographing process was fun and  I had a great time hanging out with my friends in the process.

Q: How did you find your passions and how have you incorporated them into what you do?

A: I found my passion for wanting to help others as well as for dance through experimentation. Throwing myself at a slew of opportunities to find out what was a fit for me and then taking the time to think on how I could refine it to elevate it to a higher level of proficiency and falling in love with it during the process. One such example would be helping others I’ve always loved being of help to others and so I let it show through my interactions from the manner I speak to them and how I act around them to let them know I’m available to help them should they need it.

Q: What has been the biggest opposing force that you’ve encountered in your creative journey?

A: I think the biggest opposing force I’ve faced as an individual would be self-doubt as well as feelings of inadequacy. These issues stemmed from a constant self-comparison between myself and others. This led me to disregard my self worth as I mostly capitalized on the areas I was inadequate in and it wore heavily on my desire to take any risks or pursue any creative endeavours. However, I’ve come to realize no one is perfect and we are all unique in our different ways. It is through understanding this I am able to overcome these negative thoughts and aspire to become the best possible version of myself.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A: The best piece of advice I’ve gotten was to “ work smarter not harder and If that’s still not enough work twice as hard as the next guy if not then four times, as much as you need to feel you are where you want to be”. This advice was from my dad and while not in his exact words I believe it carries the same weight. Personally, I wouldn’t refer to myself as smart but I believe it is my ability to persevere and work hard that has brought me to where I am currently and will continue to take me where I need to go.

Q: What are you currently working on?

A: I am currently working towards academic success that will allow me access to my dream job where I will be able to help more people as well as inspire them to work hard in chasing their dreams.

Q: What is your biggest motivation?

A: My biggest motivation is my family as they support me daily in pursuing my goals and respect my dream by trying to help how they can with the challenges I face.

Q: What is your dream project or goal?

A: My goal is to become a medical professional this will allow me to aid people directly and attempt to alleviate any discomforts they may encounter as well as to serve as an inspiration to other children of colour that no matter how domineering a mountain may seem it’s peak is definitely attainable.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone who’s wanting to join Antyx but is hesitant in doing so?

A: For anyone wanting to join Antyx but is hesitant I’d tell them to take a leap of faith and join the family. It’s been such a welcoming environment that has played a part in moulding who I am today and I’d love for them to have the same opportunity I was fortunate enough to receive.

Q: If you could watch 1 movie for the rest of your life, what movie would it be?

A: If I could watch any movie for the rest of my life it would have to be Grown Ups. It taught me age is just a number and you’re not old till you choose to let go of your youth. Moreover, It’s was a great experience and hilarious from start to finish regardless of how many times I’ve watched it
