Red Dress Day 2021

Today is #reddressday and the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, honouring the more than 1000 missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada. The REDress Project was created by artist Jaime Black in 2010 in response to this national issue. Why was the colour red chosen? The artist chose red after speaking with an indigenous friend who told her that red is the only colour spirits can see and is a way of calling the spirits of missing and murdered women and girls back to their loved ones. Canadians are encouraged to wear red to raise awareness to this epidemic.
